Characters: Riley Cameron, Sebastian Mosely
When: After Blank Dreams of the Coming Fun, before Chapter 002
Where: Los Angeles, California.
Summary: After the events that took place in the abandoned subway station, Sebastian gives himself some time to sort out everything that he has seen. After a second night of little to no information coming in about The Gentleman, the young hunter decides to call it an evening and head back home. Frustrated with his lack of progress, he leaves the library as the sun begins to set and tries to figure out his next step before he has to enlist in Taylor's help. On his way back he runs over a bump in the road; the bump being named Riley Cameron. With this being their first encounter since the incident, they have their share of issues to work through - one of which they didn't even know they had.

-o-

The day hadn’t gone exactly as planned. Sure, he made it to training and worked hard all afternoon, but he didn’t really have is mind in the place it should have been. Sebastian admitted to Taylor that he was having an off day and needed some time to relax and have a night to himself. To his surprise, she understood and let him go early and take the rest of the afternoon off. He sort of felt bad lying to his ‘teacher’ but he really didn’t have his mindset right and there were things that he needed to do. After taking the shower to wash the grime away and having the faint smell of Polo Black by Ralph Lauren, he headed to the library to do some research of his own. One hour passed by then two then three with very little information about the monster Riley and him had encountered just a couple of days ago. The information he did get he already knew about; what it looked like, that it could be incorporeal or not, brutal, etc. Sebastian ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head. “Thanks ever expanding world wide web and endless array of books for giving me nothing but complete shit.” His voice was low and the words were only meant to be for his ears but it didn’t stop the one person in his area from ‘shh’ing him and giving him a dirty look.

Looking at the time he noticed that it was around 7 o’clock; where did the time go? Closing his multitude of books and trying not to let his frustration of his lack of information get to him; he threw his backpack over his right shoulder full of neat little objects and headed out. The walk from the library to his apartment wasn’t all that bad (meaning completely out of the way and probably should have taken his car); the exercise was good for him. Get those endorphins pumping! He hoped by this nice late afternoon/early evening walk his stress levels would at least go down and he could get a decent night’s sleep so he could do it all over again tomorrow and get a fresh perspective on things. As he left, he pulled out his blackberry from his pocket to see if he had gotten any calls or texts while slaving over a heavy table. Thumbing through, he noticed that he actually had one! See, he has friends! That million dollar smile appeared on his face as he got a text from his long time best friend, Tegan. Wow, he hadn’t heard from her in a while, but it was great to get something from her. It was the basics; miss you, we need to catch up, I’ll call you later in the week! They had had their ups and downs and life events that threw them both for a loop but at the end of the day they were like peanut butter and jelly.

He sent a short message back to her telling her that it had sounded like an excellent plan and they had a lot to catch up on. Unfortunately, a lot was an understatement and now he had to deal with the idea of telling her the truth about what he had been up to. He put on a considerable amount of muscle and he was leaner than when she had last seen him. The young hunter was honestly tired of keeping everything to himself and vent for the first time since he’d gotten a call from Taylor. On top of everything else, Riley was in the same town as he was and they had their own issues to deal with. The smile that was once there had long since faded as he continued down the sidewalk. Things had gotten pretty jumbled coming out here to California, but was it necessarily a bad thing? At this point in time, yes it did seem like a bad thing. He could only deal with so many issues at one time! A person wouldn’t be able to tell but this young man was under a lot of pressure coming from all over the place. Sebastian took everything as it came and faced everything except some Riley issues that was thrown at him. He did have his faults and had to work on some things, but didn’t everyone? Don’t judge. He looked up into the sky and watched as the sun just started to set. Small things like that could keep a man sane. Beautiful and engaging and keeping all the other noise out.

Bad Moon Rising Empty Re: Bad Moon Rising

No matter how hard he attempted to put the spiraling events out of his mind, they always managed to bring their way to the forefront of his mind. Even though it had been a few more days, the memories didn’t seem to want to be forgotten – even temporarily. On that Sunday, normal families would be attending church, atoning for their sins; some people were working to make minimum wage and bring food home to their families; others roamed the streets completely unaware of all the chaos that could, at any moment, literally fall from the sky without warning. It was that which terrified the blonde more than he’d be willing to admit. He didn’t particularly want to face the facts and how scared he truly was, but he wasn’t willing to admit to anyone how he was really feeling. What was the point, anyway? He had attempted to have a best friend amidst all of the other people he made it known that he hated, and that friend ended up being roasted in front of his very eyes. He didn’t have any other friends in Los Angeles, other than Carolina (and that random stranger who he had bumped into, if that counted. He didn’t think so, though). Honestly, the boy didn’t want to risk anyone else being harmed because of a close friendship.

The Gentleman was supposed to be dead. Riley had sworn that he had killed the beast back when he was still at Yale. That encounter had been the ultimate decision maker that had led him to move from his home in New York to the City of Angels. The fiend wasn’t supposed to track him down in the busy city; how had he managed to do so? The thing that really scared Riley was the lull that it had used to call him down into that abandoned subway. After all that time, it seemed that the Shadowkind still had an effect on the blond; like a moth to a flame. With no intention of allowing the beast to cause anymore harm, the boy had made up his mind to venture to the library. He had spent most of the day at his penthouse, hitting the internet with nothing held back, determined to find out anything he could on his lifetime stalker. When nothing had popped up, he had quickly packed up his stuff and headed to the library. He didn’t understand how he ended up in this new role of his: a warrior in an ancient war that he didn’t even know that much about. Riley knew that the best thing to do was to ask the experienced Arcanists about his problem, but in a way, it seemed like a taboo subject – like if he tried, nothing would come out when he went to speak.

He hadn’t expected to run into anyone that he knew whenever he reached the library, though he should have known that he’d always run into the one person that he least wanted to no matter how much he wished differently. Descending the steps of the library was Sebastian, though his attention was thankfully on the cellular phone that he held in his hand. For a brief moment, the blond boy crossed his fingers, believing that he’d be able to just make it past the hunter without being noticed. Whether fate would allow him the slip or not remained unseen, but Riley turned his eyes away from his ex and towards his frontward direction. If he ignored the approaching figure, then it wasn’t there. The blond was convinced that he had enough to worry about. He didn’t want to slip into any more arguments with the hunter over what he should or should not do. It wasn’t the other’s business to deal with the fiend. The Gentleman didn’t want anyone but Riley; though he’d use others to torture the blond, his sole target was the Evoker. If Sebastian continued attempting to track it down, it’d easily become his next target for use against its obsession. As he neared the hunter, his right hand toyed with his cell phone, not sure if he should pull it out and act like he was texting – that would put his eyes downwards and out of the chance of making contact. Somehow, he knew that the other would still make himself known in the boy attempted that. He wasn’t looking forward to it, but the encounter was increasingly inevitable. The sinking feeling in his gut was so vastly different from all of the other euphoric feelings he had previously felt years ago when the two were together.

Bad Moon Rising Empty Re: Bad Moon Rising

When Sebastian walked down the stairs he could see another person walking in front of him. It barely took a slight movement of his eyes to see the familiar blond hair and the avoidant body language to accompany it. Putting his cell phone back in his pocket, the inevitable meeting between the two was now becoming a realization. At first he wasn’t sure if he should say something or continue on his path of awkwardness in the small staircase. He decided to go with the former. “I’m surprised you didn’t turn around and take another route.” His voice was light, almost jokingly; no sign of maliciousness or hurt behind his words. He was trying to take their relationship, or whatever it was, at face value and not push too hard. However, the fates seemed to have a different plan and throw them together in the most unexpected places. In addition to the small quip from the brunet, he showed no signed of stopping to talk to his past beau; there was no need for questions, even if it did peak his interest slightly. In his heart he wanted to fight for this but he knew Riley well enough that the blond would do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted (unless there was the rare occasion that Sebastian had the upper hand and ended up getting what he wanted).

As the young hunter passed the blond, he couldn’t help but sneakily look back, barely turning his head, to get a glimpse of the wonderfully shaped man before he left. He had a hunch that Riley wouldn’t take a glance back, which lead him to assume that taking a little look ever hurt, anyone. A small smirk appeared on his face as he finished descending the stairs. Memories flooded his mind as he thought of the two sitting down on the grass and enjoying each other’s company. There were moments in time when the two were inseparable and never wanted to leave each other’s arms; how dramatically things change. A small sigh left his lips as he shook his head. If nothing else he would help Riley with his crazy stalker then, as far as he was concerned, he didn’t have to see Sebastian ever again. At this point in time he couldn’t leave Riley alone to deal with something like this. If anything hurt the blond or threatened his well-being, that’s when Sebastian has a problem. Of course in Riley’s mind, Sebastian would be in the ‘hurt’ category and should probably then have an issue with himself. It was bad when he could already somewhat predict what Riley would think or say (sometimes it wasn’t hard to guess either).

As he made his way out to the lobby of the library, he had forgotten something that he had printed out upstairs. Wonderful! Story of his life. At this point in time he didn’t really care and rather not take the chance of running into the Evoker that was now occupying that floor. Riley was like a ninja now, popping out of nowhere. Shaking his head, he decided to leave it behind and leave everything alone. He couldn’t even remember what he printed out in the first place considering he looked at various pieces of information. Readjusting his backpack, he would finally make it out of the library and try not to think that 100 feet away would be the guy that he was supposed to be with.
