LOS ANGELES, HIGHWAY .

Darkness retreated from the headlights of the bus, hiding an empty street. Silence encased the metro bus aside from the engine of the large vehicle. The occasional bump would shake the statue-like passengers attempting to find peace in their claustrophobic journey. A small Hispanic woman up at the front of the bus stared blankly into the street ahead, her plastic bag making a crackle noise as it swayed from side to side in her grip. Everyone on the bus had been minding their own business as if this had been just another daily trip they had been taking. The bus had picked most of these passengers up at the airport, while others loaded on at the stops just after. The vehicle merged onto the highway heading towards the city, threw the window there was nothing to see for miles.

The bus abruptly jerked to a stop, causing the exhausted med student to bump into a fellow passenger. Brian readjusted his grip on the metal pole going floor to ceiling and smiled, abashed, at the bumpee. The solid, stern looking businessman only narrowed his eyes at the young man before spying a seat a few rows away being slowly vacated by an elderly woman. He nudged - pushed, rather - his way through the throng to get to it, but a young mother took it before he could. Brian couldn't help but laugh at the gray pinstriped suit now in even worse lodging between an overweight man in a Hawaiian print T-shirt and a woman carrying a grocery bag from which the stench of garlic could be smelled by Brian, who was over ten feet away. This earned him more disapproving looks from those around him, and he tugged his messenger bag higher on his shoulder as the bus lurched forward, looking down at his feet.

So far, living in L.A. wasn't a dream come true. His first night in town he had been mauled by a harpy; he'd spent the following days recovering in bed, ordering in meals from the list of restaurants the owner of the apartment had left for him. But his time recuperating hadn't been wasted - he'd done his studying and now knew the bus lines that would get him from the apartment to school, the apartment to downtown, the apartment to the zoo...

Perhaps it had been wasted time, as he was planning to leave the harpy-infested neighborhood as soon as he could. But as he had no prospects as of yet, his mental maps would come in handy for a short while. But the time he had spent rereading a few medical texts had definitely not been a waste. Even though he was heavily doped up on ibuprofen to deal with the healing harpy wounds, he was the only in his class to correctly explain how to conduct an endometrial biopsy, which had earned him looks from his fellow scholars as friendly as those he was still getting for his out-of-turn bout of laughter.

Brian looked past the looks and wound up looking towards the young mother-and-child pair who had taken the seat. The boy was seated on his mother's lap facing the back of the bus, and as he saw his face Brian gave a start. That was Jeremy! Jeremy Paul, age three, staying overnight at the hospital because of an allergic reaction to penicillin given to rid him of a simple infection -

But no, Brian realized, taking a closer look. Jeremy was a redhead with an abundance of freckles splatter painted across his face. The child on the bus had dark hair, and no freckles he could see. Brian yawned and rubbed the heel of his hand against his eyes. No, Jeremy was the little boy whose mother worked the night shift at a casino and father was out of town, and who Brian, having gotten on the wrong side of his supervisor, was appointed to stay with overnight. Stay with and check every two hours for adverse signs of the new antibiotics. Needless to say, Jeremy had a better night's sleep than the student had. And he still stood by his whispered opinion: Dr. Luann Roberts had an uncanny resemblance to Scrubs' Dr. Cox.

A little Iranian girl would probably look like the pale, freckled boy for a few moments at this point. After staying up with Jeremy he had had a full day of classes and practicals, and all he wanted - needed - was to get home and get to sleep. He loosely swayed with the bus as it took a wide turn onto the highway, not fighting the motion as he was nearly asleep on his feet.

His sky blue eyes sprang open.

The highway? No, no, the bus he took went away from the city, not towards it. How could he have gotten on the wrong bus? A bus that wouldn't stop until it reached the city! Brian groaned and laid his forehead against his hand hanging on to the pole. And he had thought he was finally on his way home.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Lyra Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:54 pm

When the bus jerked to a stop, Lyra had been forced to reach up and grab the nearest pole. It wouldn't have been a big deal if she hadn't accidentally grabbed someone else's hand in the process. And now the man was leering at her as if she were dinner. Didn't that just figure? Some guys were pigs and others were dogs. She had yet to meet one who didn't have something wrong with him. Then again, Lyra didn't meet many people in her way of life either. If she hadn't had to make the trip to Hollywood earlier today in order to meet with her usual fencer, she wouldn't have bothered with the buses at all. But she didn't trust the ones in LA - as if she should trust any at all - and had figured it was safer to use one in another town anyhow. Less chance of being found in Hollywood if she didn't live there and the fencer got greedy. He'd given her a good deal of money for the jewelry she'd taken from the brunette just two weeks ago.

Money which was now resting in the bottom of the bag she held. Someone would have to kill her in order to get this bag from her. Mainly because what was in this bag was going to make it easy for her to survive for a good three months if she budgeted it right. Sometimes being homeless and on one's own without a high school diploma seriously sucked. But she'd like to see a lot of high school graduates get by like she does. Lyra always told herself you had to have a certain skill to live like this. It generally made her feel better.

But while riding on a bus came with massive cons, it also came with pros. She could scout out her next mark if she needed one. She could start figuring out different people. It was almost like a game. Like the idiot beside her who was looking at her like she was naked and beckoning him to take her once they were out of here. The deduction she got out of this guy was that he was fed up with his superior more than likely. Thought he could do whatever suit job he was in a whole lot better if he were in a position of power and had no problems with playing dirty to get there. And the latter decision came from how he was beginning to slide off that ring on his ring finger before he made his move. Pig.

Turning her attentions to mother and son pair who had just taken a seat across from her, she smiled. That little boy would probably never have to worry about being like her if fate was kind. His mother sat there with him in her lap and running her fingers through his hair as he squirmed. More families should be like that. Affectionate, watchful, loving. In her mind she could see the mother setting a bowl of cereal in front of the boy in a nice kitchen in their home. She'd take the seat next to him with her own cup of coffee and ask him about school and what his plans were for the day once he got older. And when he got home, she'd help him with his homework and play with him. The pang in her chest hurt, but she hid it well.

She looked further towards the front where an annoyed looking individual had come from and noticed a slender boy standing there. He seemed pretty mild mannered, clean cut looking... but then again so had Patrick. And Patrick was still trying to track her down because he was convinced that she belonged to him. Stupid foster brothers. This kid looked like no Patrick but then again, Patrick didn't look like Patrick before he flipped either. Anything was possible, Lyra figured. Absolutely anything. And that was why she trusted no one around her. Least of all the clean cut looking boys. They were always hiding something... it was just a matter of figuring out what it was... and if it was dangerous.

Turning her head to the driver, Lyra seriously hoped this damn bus ride ended soon. Very soon. She was getting nervous cooped up with all these... people. And she needed to find a place to take a shower. She had a little dirt streaked on her cheek and temple. Even now she was trying to discreetly wipe it away. It was something that could cause a person to take notice of her... even in a bus filled with people like this.

Come on, man... get me home already...

She was beginning to get a bad feeling about this trip. A very bad feeling. And when those feelings came, Lyra always tried to get as far away from the spot she was in as fast as she physically could.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Alisa Madison Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:55 pm

“But I don’t understand, why are you leaving?”

Her hands halted the folding and packing at her mom’s question. “I don’t know. I just know I don’t think I can stay here anymore.”

“But why? Even if you don’t know what you want to do, you can stay here and help at your brother’s office. Or even help me. I’m sure we could-”

Slamming her suitcase shut, Ally turned around to face her. “No, I’m not going to stay here to be your new charity case. The sad one in the family. Why can’t you understand I can’t be like Peter or Elizabeth? Or worst, I don’t want to be! I need to go and find out who I am. Who I can be! I know I’m destined for greater things, I just know it.”

“But-”

Picking up her suitcase, she walked toward the door. As she paused at the doorway, she saw a tear fall down her mom’s face, one that mirrored her own. “I’m sorry.”

As the bus hit a street pothole, Alisa bounced up in the air, jerked awake from her dream. Raising a thin hand, she swept her dark locks off of her face and yawned. She should have known it wasn’t real. There was no way she would have ever spoken to her parents like that. Not because that wasn’t the truth because it was, but because she had been raised not to speak back to her elders. That had never been a problem as she never argued with them before.

Until now.

Although their discussion about her future was nowhere near as vocal as her dream. Her parents had merely let her move to Los Angeles for six months on a trial basis. After that, if she still hadn’t made anything of herself, she would return home. Or so they thought.

But where was she? Looking around at the various people sitting in the seats around her, she suddenly remembered. She was on a bus heading back to the city from airport. A friend of Sara’s bought her new ceramic sample from India and Ally volunteered to pick it up for her. Usually she would never have offered to the safety of the four mile radius from her apartment but it was the only thing she could think of. Sara was in a matchmaking mood again and was offering to set her up with her neighbor’s nephew. Even though she didn’t know what she was going to do with her life, Ally was sure she didn’t want a guy in it.

Especially since she’s already met Sara’s neighbor. No, thank you. Short and slightly balding. Any nephew of his may look the same.

Looking around, she noticed several people had come on the bus while she was dozing. In fact, quite a few people had come and gone. A family near the front. An old woman right beside them. A son and his mother sitting by a girl that looked to be near her age, although she wasn’t quite sure. It wasn’t until then that she noticed that quite a few of them was also standing. And here she was taking up a whole seat with her packages. Cheeks flushing with shame, Ally quickly swept the boxes up and put them on her lap, cradling them in her arms. Although this wasn’t exactly comfortable, it made enough room for a person to sit beside her.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Brian Botner Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:56 pm

Brian took his forehead off of his hand to dejectedly look out the window, catching quick glimpses of unfamiliar road signs as headlights flashed over them in the darkness. He could see their spectral reflections in the window as lights passed over him and the rest of the passengers, and, seeing that his short brown hair was ruffled more than usual, halfheartedly attempted to flatten it. There was another bump in the road that jolted everyone forward, sending Brian's attention to the predicament at hand. He was on a bus going towards the city and he needed to be on one going away from it. The bus was now on the highway, so there would be no stops for a while. He supposed he'd just get off as soon as he could and find the right one...

The bus was silent besides the low rumble of the engine, and any movement seemed louder than usual. Hearing someone moving items on a seat just ahead of him, Brian made out the petite figure of a dark haired girl his age, and masterfully - growing up traveling on city buses had its perks - wormed his way through the passengers to get to the now-empty seat.

"Do you mind?" he asked, genial as his fatigue would allow, as he bent down to ask the girl, who was completely covered with the boxes that had filled the seat beside her. Catching sight of her flushed face, his mouth stretched into one of the only grins he'd had that day, and he allowed himself a short laugh. Brian was good with names and faces, and hers he would have trouble forgetting. "Miss Alisa Madison, you are a godsend!" He gratefully sank into the seat and put his bag at his feet, continuing to chatter as he did. "You would not believe the day I just had - am still having, actually, and will for quite a while, I'm a mess and I shouldn't be on this bus - and I was completely dead on my feet and now - but I'm being rude, give me those."

Brian reached over and took hold of a number of the boxes, transferring them to his own lap. Alisa - or Ally, he remembered now - had briefly been a patient of his at Good Samaritan, following her "mugging." He still didn't believe the story (Seriously, if there had been as many dogs present as the bites indicated, the owner of the store Ally worked at - who was still in - would most definitely had heard the barking.), but had nonetheless enjoyed treating her. She was such a sweet, quiet, pretty girl, new to the area like him, and he'd gotten her speaking - had he mentioned she was quiet? - after a little while, and didn't want to stop. But, alas, duty called in the form of a mess in the next wing he and the other second-year students were paged to take care of by their dictator of a supervisor. Ah, the smell of spilled urine in the morning.

"How's L.A. been treating you lately, Ally?" he asked, smiling sympathetically. "You're looking much better, fully recovered, says my professional opinion. As for me, that harpy keeps on singing her songs, but I've learned my lesson." Chuckling quietly, he shook his head as moments of that night pushed themselves against his consciousness. The beauty of the song, how quickly things had gone from good to much, much worse than he had ever anticipated, the pain searing through his every nerve when her talons dug in...As he was holding the boxes with both hands, he was unable to scratch his shoulder, the wounds on which were still healing and started to itch whenever he thought of them like most scratches do, so rubbed it against the back of the seat. "What're you transporting, anyway?" asked Brian, nodding to the multitude of boxes once his shoulder was feeling better. "Lots of little boxes for you to carry around on a bus. Stuff for the shop? You never did tell me where it was - How was I supposed to make sure the only acquaintance I have here is all right if I had no idea where to find her?"

He smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling with the effort. Realizing that it may have seemed too forward - he'd only spoken with the girl for fifteen minutes, tops - he closed his eyes tight and fiercely shook his head. "Don't mind me, didn't get a second of sleep last night and I babble nonsense when I'm overtired. It happens when I'm lucid as well, but I make much less sense and seem much more foolish at times like these." As if to prove his point, a wide yawn escaped him, and he leaned his head back onto the seat, keeping his face turned towards her. "Forget all of that, let me start again." He cleared his throat, smiled a quick closed-lip smile, and said simply, "How was your day?"

Post  Monique Johnson Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:57 pm

Perfectly content to be staring out the window at the bus drove onward, Monique crossed her short legs left over right at the knee. With her hands perched atop her thigh she idly let her thumb scroll around her iPod tracking wheel, changing the volume of a loud song so it was softer on her sensitive ears, pushing down on the right side to forward through to another song. Oh, Aretha, you never cease to put a smile on this young woman's face. Like a welcoming lamp light hanging over a doorstep on an otherwise dreary looking street, Monique had a brightness about her as she sat by herself on the bus. She wasn't particularly worried about anything other than her senior project--though whenever "Superwoman" played on her MP3 she thought back to the other day. That shelving had been a very...bizarre turn of events. The night following the incident had left M.J. without any sleep, she tossing and turning in bed as she tried to understand how a shelf bolted into the wall could just fall down. Her mind would ask, "did you see the bolts in the wall when you were down there?" and she would answer, "yes, I did." Then she would ask, "are you sure you saw the bolts in. the. wall?" to which she would also reply, "yes, I'm sure of it!"

Thinking about it gave her a headache and, ultimately, it was easier not to think about it. No one who had witnessed the dented shelving upon the floor talked to her about it. That was a good thing, a relief even, because she had no idea how to explain it. What did someone say in response to that? How did steel shelving just bend in a near perfect sphere shape, anyway? Nothing had been there. It was just air!

Oh, the headache.

But now she wasn't concerned. It was a strange fluke and nothing more, obviously. Nothing had bothered her since! Monique let her foot bounce in the air, tapping to the beat of the song. She was tempted to hum--the passenger's on board probably would not appreciate it. Not that she was a bad singer, mind. During high school she had participated in the choir at her church and had even been given a few small solo's when she was seventeen and eighteen. The bus, however, was just no place for an impromptu performance.

In the reflection of the window she saw one of the standing members moving down the seats to sit with a young girl. They were probably the same age. Poor guy. He looked pretty tired. Monique suddenly felt a little guilty for taking up the seat beside her with her newly bought art supplies. A friend of her's in the interior design program told her the best to go buy supplies. Never mind what their professors said or what the school offered. Just on the edge of town, out by the airport, was a great little shop that practically no one knew about. They had great deals on the products that were usually expensive. Unable to help herself, Monique went and bought herself doubles of practically every Prismacolor Marker imaginable. She was preparing for her final, of course. So the cute carrying bag beside her (a sturdy casing of blue canvas painted with white flowers, five sections of various size, with a durable handle of black canvas) took up a seat. It was just so heavy with all of those markers and paints strapped into side pockets that it was too awkward to really carry on a lap. Sure, perhaps it was a lazy person's excuse not to hold something, but when did people not take the lazy way out on the occasion? Wasn't it human nature?

Still, Monique looked at Brian once turning her face toward him and away from the window. At least he seemed to know that girl. Nonetheless, with a glance around the young African American moved her bag onto her lap after uncrossing her legs and putting the iPod on top of all the colorful marker caps. There. Now if they stopped (again?) there would be one more seat! Good deed of the day done.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Taylor Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:57 pm

The places she would wind up as she continued her stay here at Los Angeles. Her plan was to get in and get out; do what she needed to do and go to the next place that caught her attention in the papers. Unfortunately, the city had a nice vibe to it and part of her didn't want to leave. However, knowing if she stayed either people would get hurt or someone would get attached somewhere down the line and that was not an option either. She spent her days working at Equinox as a Mangager in LA. Forty hours a week to work out and keep her body in the pristine condition to prepare her for what could potentially come out at night. Her newest lead brought her on the Metro going back to the city. Why? Not necessarily sure, but the way she has been able to put things together in such a way that could almost prevent the event from happening is something she had almost down to an art. There are always traces left behind waiting for someone to notice it's there; that was her job - notice and interpret things that other people couldn't.

The silence was almost eery as they made their way down the road. A small kid was with his mom and a small smile was brought to her face. It was the little things that caught her eye and reminded her that there were things that had a silver lining and that no one had to experience what she had. Shifting a little bit, she moved her legs as a young man passed her in the aisle to move and sit next to, who she assumed, was a friend of his. Except for the short conversation that was started up between two of the passengers, there really wasn't much else going on. Hazel eyes watched the passengers as the bus made it's way closer towards its destination. She watched as a young blonde woman scanned the people in the bus just as she had; but Taylor could tell that she felt antsy about getting off the bus, not that she could blame her. Shifting in her the annoyingly hard seat to get feeling back into her butt, her head turned to notice another girl listening to her ipod and smile softly - not knowing if the stranger caught her eye contact. It was the nice thing to do, but her eyes went immediately to the front of the bus again. Slowly, her memories of Seattle would flow back into her mind. The idea of being able to sit and talk to members of the Arcane Family; Brayden and Lorelei in particular and feeling the best she had since she was a young girl. It was a memory she cherished but tried not to think about too often. Taylor had never been able to keep those thoughts deep down, but she was getting better at it and it was getting easier to isolate herself from the "target city" and be able to pack up and move when her job was done.

She never noticed how uncomfortable the equipment she carried was until sitting in this damn bus. Usually she would be up and moving around: hunting in a cemetery or around the city, but this was a new experience for her. Of all the places she had been brought to, a bus was new and hey.. at least it kept the locations unpredictable. However, the small arsenal under her black bomber jacket did seem to jab into her when she moved the wrong way. Unfortunately, with her being out and about for the night, she had to take a more subtle approach to not attract unwanted attention. Nowadays, with someone having weapons anywhere, it would cause mass hysteria and she did NOT feel like dealing with that situation again. One might think that what she had on her was overkill; but knives are pretty more expendable and you can run out of them - something she learned the hard way late one night. From the 6 inch dagger strapped to her right side of her lower calf, to the two hidden in the back of her belt and in holsters underneath her jacket, and of course, her favorite, the two switch blade that were strapped to her forearms that she could use at a second's notice - all easily accessible due to her jacket, which she loved. Again, you might say overdone - she would say cautious. And of course, let's not forget her "gym bag" she brought with her which had plans B,C, and D in case things didn't go exactly how she planned (which happened more often than not).

Fingers ran through her hair as she looked forward and out of the windshield. Staring out into nothingness always creeped her out - and this was no exception.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Alisa Madison Fri Mar 26, 2010 6:59 pm

"Miss Alisa Madison, you are a godsend!"

Her startled brown eyes fluttered open in surprise as Dr Botner-Brian sat down next to her. Although he was one of the few people that she knew in Los Angeles, she certainly didn’t expect to see him on the bus coming back from the airport. After all, he was a doctor, shouldn’t he be in the hospital or something?

Not that she didn’t want to see him but the last time they met had been quite awkward. It had been right after her…mugging. Or at least what she called her mugging (Brian had different views on what he thought happened to her). But she didn’t listen to him. Because to admit it was something else…she just couldn’t do it; even if his argument was…very convincing. She wasn’t raised to believe in the paranormal and supernatural. She was a preacher’s daughter for God sake.

“…but I'm being rude, give me those."

Lost in her thoughts, Ally wasn’t even listening to Brian’s words until he took the boxes from her lap. She looked down, her lashes casting small shadows on her high cheekbones. “Oh, thank you.” She replied, feeling slightly awkward now that his lap was full while hers was empty. Sitting up straighter, Ally put her bag on her lap instead as she tried to concentrate on his rapid talking. “I just picked up some things that Sara needed from the airport. She’s the owner of the shop.” She clarified, answering the easiest of his questions.

Looking out the window at the empty passing road, Ally turned back and gave him a small shy smile, her straight dark hair half covering her face. “My day’s been okay I suppose. Nothing bad is happened so I suppose that’s a good thing isn’t it?” Her gaze slid past his kind light blue eyes to the other people around them. Perhaps it was a symptom from the past incident, but she had an uneasy feeling in her stomach that she knew wouldn’t fade until she was back in her apartment.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Ryan Perry Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:00 pm

It had been days since Ryan's "Encounter.” He had been bandaged up pretty good, but his body, was still riddled with bruises and scrapes. Between the damage and the pain relievers Ryan was positive that driving his car around was asking for more problems. Ryan was good driver, but was people here were damn crazy behind the wheel. Which made each trip in a car a life-changing experience. He learned that yellow light meant gun it and red lights were just mere suggestions that you should yield, but not always.

Ryan learned the hard way a few other rules of the road in LA. . They didn’t have U-turn lanes where he was from, nor do the people honk incessantly. This lack of trust behind the wheel lead Ryan to work on his public transportation skills. He now knew how to get on the bus to and from college, the grocery store, and his apartment. He still didn’t know much else about the bus routes, which leads to the current predicament.

Ryan found himself on a bus heading to Hollywood. He didn’t originally intend to go to Hollywood. The fact was one short trip to the movie store has turned out to be an adventure. However, he had yet to be to Hollywood and he might as well enjoy the big city nightlife while he had the chance.

Ryan was on a packed bus destined for the land of lights and stars. There were no open seats, but Ryan didn’t want to sit down with his tailbone anyhow. Riding public transit leads to the acquisition of new skills. At first he had to consciously make an effort when standing on the bus. When the bus lurched forward he would need to switch his grip, grab tightly, and lean forward as to not stumble. When the bus went to stop he switched his grip again and leaned back to absorb the change in momentum. All the while he needed to make sure his knees were slightly bent, if they weren’t chances are he would lose his balance.

That day Ryan had been at the Sated Satyr, it was a place that he spent time at every day since the “encounter”. He had found the shop while researching the local occult circles. The past few days the Satyr had been his office. He was pleasantly surprised at the wealth of information the simple shop had provided. His search had turned up useful information on what he thought had attacked him. He almost laughed as he came upon the realization. It was so simple ,“Werewolf”.

Every author seemed to agree upon one fact when dealing with the supernatural. Cut the head off of everything. Fire and silver were also common suggestions, so Ryan made a note in his I-phone about buying a silver dagger, and maybe a handgun. It may not kill what he comes across, but it sure scared off the beast that was after him.

Ryan had to wonder if what he was doing was crazy. He was purposefully searching for entities that have supernatural powers and could probably kill him. The rational side of him screamed. After all, you don’t go into a bear’s cave without a rifle, if you have to go in at all. So Ryan started looking for ways to combat the disadvantage he was at. This led him to the completely illogical, logical conclusion that followed. “Magic”, if the supernatural existed, and he needed some way to defend against it, Magic seemed like his best option.

Being the capable researcher he was, Ryan spent hours learning about different styles of magic, and one type seemed to draw the young man in. He was drawn towards certain spells, and others seemed too far-fetched to be plausible, but he continued his studies. Today is the first day that Ryan had attempted to use his knowledge of the arcane in practical application.

His application was a simple potion of protection. It was designed to ward off attacks against the user. However, Ryan had yet to come across a way to test it in a controlled environment. So the small purple cloth bag containing ground up clear quartz and Cyclamen sat in his blazer’s pocket. He kept checking to make sure it was there, and looking around to see if anyone watched him. Instead of the bag providing peace of mind, it made him paranoid someone would ask about it

Ryan stared ahead as he waited for the bus to reach its destination. His eyes widened as a thought leapt into his mind and out his mouth. “How am I going to get home?” It wasn’t a yell, but anyone near him would hear every word.

Rain pelted down on the windshield as the passengers of the Metro Line clung to what little space they had. The storm only grew in ferocity as the night stretched on and only extended their trip. Cautious and alert, the driver followed his usual route like any other day. Eight feet ahead, an overpass stretched over the highway, just tall enough for the bus to fit underneath.

Three shadowy figures stood by the side of the bridge, watching the approaching bus carefully. Silently, one nodded to the other in confirmation. This was their target. As the bus neared the otherwise dead bridge, the figures launched into the air with powerful leaps, a shrill shriek echoed throughout the sky as a warning. The headlights caught nothing until it was too late, one figure landing in the middle of its path. As the light shone on the creature, the driver yelled, not having expected a late night visitor to walk the roads. Twisting the wheel violently as if the quicker he turned the better chance he had of avoiding the creature, the bus creaked in protest. Tires skidded along the pavement as the brakes were heaved against the floorboard; the passengers would be on their own to grab hold of something to catch their balance. For a moment, it seemed as if the bus was tilting -- in reality, it was. From the sharp turn, the bus was beginning to lean heavily towards one side. In a split second, the bus was forced down on it's regular upright, though it was accompanied by a great slam against the rooftop.

The shadowy form standing in the middle of the highway was unharmed, as it remained stationary. Groans and grunts filled the crowded bus as luggage and purses were scattered across the isle. “Everyone stay calm! Any injuries?” The bus driver stood from his seat after making a complete stop in the middle of the highway. About to reach for the handle to open the door, two heavy sets of feet pounded above their heads. Before anyone could figure out what was going on, long sharp copper nails plunged into steel and ripped off a section of the roof. The screams of the passengers filled the tiny space as faceless creatures stared down upon the helpless victims. The dim streetlights reflected upon their bark-like skin while two horned antennas sprouted from the tops of their heads like gnarled branches. Eerie red cravings replaced eyes as they observed the frightened passengers below. Many were already trampling to the far end of the bus to try and escape.

One looked directly at the sandy-haired male and dark-haired female sitting together. The Kelfazu had spent many nights searching for those new arcanists infused with mana under the direct orders from the Horde. Their blood stained fingers were used to suck the mana right out of them. With one swipe of a long arm, the Kelfazu attempted to grab Brian who was closet to them. The other standing on the roof jumped down into the hole inside the bus and turned towards the blonde-hair girl sitting off on her own. The last standing outside took one look at the bus driver as he vacated the vehicle. In the blink of an eye, sharp claws sheered through human flesh, and the driver fell to the floor.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Lyra Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:02 pm

Everything had been normal. She'd been looking over the passengers - noting the brunette man sticking his hand in his pocket constantly and the brunette woman standing and doing much the same as she was, watching the other passengers - when the bus jolted nd sent Lyra crashing into the floor and almost right into a young black woman with an iPod. This was probably why it was a good idea to hold onto something when riding public transportation. Stupid fucking bus dr- She stopped. Something wasn't right. She didn't know what but no one hit brakes like that just for the hell of it. It just wasn't done.

Then she felt the bus lurch back onto four wheels and heard an eerie crunch. Oh that couldn't have been good. Why did she have to take the bus today, damn it? Why. Shit shit shit. She knew better. She knew better than to get on buses this late at night. Stupid things always happened. And this just proved it. What was going on outside? Even the bus driver looked spooked as he asked about any injuries. Then again, of course he'd look spooked. He could get sued for this. And wouldn't that be too damn bad?

As she pushed herself up, however, things were proving to be much more dire than she'd thought they were before. Well... didn't this just suck? Her head jerked up when she heard the top of the bus... actually being pulled away?! "What the-" Her small voice got lost for a moment in the commotion as a very large, horned creature appeared behind the pulled back bus roof... and zeroed right in on her.

Turning her head, she noticed a second one by the kid she'd watched before and the little brunette girl. Oh no. No no no no no. She'd had enough to deal with her in lifetime already, was fate really adding monsters to the mix? And one had to focus on her. Lovely. What was she going to do now? She didn't know how to fight. She didn't know how to do anything but take care of herself and survive. Lyra supposed that meant she had to start figuring out a way to get out of here. Those claws were looking dangerously sharp and aimed right at her... a fact she most definitely was not comfortable with.

Lyra was pretty certain if she didn't act soon, that thing was going to rend her into strips. She had to come up with something fast. And the little boy gave her the opening she needed when he let out an ear piercing wail. Good God, that kid could scream. And just as well, because Lyra grabbed her bag by the straps and swung it as hard as she could at the creature's head when he turned to look at the little boy. She'd almost forgotten about him. Thank God he'd scraemed like that. Then again, maybe that was a bad thing because it changed Lyra's way of thinking. From the looks of it, his mom had hit that nifty metal pole at the top of her seat and was out for the count. That meant Lyra couldn't quite leave yet. Not that she could anyway.

She looked up, noticing the blood on the door of the bus. Well, there went the idea that the bus driver could help. He probably couldn't have anyway.

Immediately, Lyra dug into her bag, looking for the cannister of pepper spray. It might work, it might not, but she had to try. After all, protection was why she had it so it had better do the damn job it was assigned for.

When she found it, her thumb slipped the nozzle to the right to open it up and she sprayed it in the monster's eyes just as he turned back around to face her. She didn't stop to see if it took effect because she was already moving as fast as she could towards the little boy. He shouldn't be unprotected. No child should be unprotected. And when she finally reached him, she pushed him to the back of the bus with instructions to hide underneath the seat as far in the corner as he could. To keep out of sight and not make a sound. That she'd try to make sure his mother stayed safe.

Of course, in getting the kid out of the way, she wound up shoved hard into the right side of the bus, only just catching herself in order to keep her ribs from ending up cracked. They were still going to end up bruised to all hell. Damn monster had come up behind her. And put her right into the black girl she'd noticed earlier.

Groaning, she flashed the black girl a small smile and popped her neck. "What a way to end the day, yeah?" she asked, softly.

When the monster came at her again, Lyra kicked out hard, landing her foot square in the sternum - or what maybe would have been the sternum if it were human - and cringed. Oh that hurt. And she didn't even know if she made any progress in backing the monster off either. Son of a bitch.

Rain always complicated things. Compromised vision, slippery equipment, and of course, it made you cold! The latter of the three wasn’t that important, but it was an inconvenience after everything was said and done. Hazel eyes were peeled on the street windshield trying to keep an eye on what was going on in front of them. The bus driver should really invest in some rain-ex, because the amount of rain coming down was enough to create nothing but a blurred world on the outside. In the distance, even in the rumbling of the bus engine and rain hitting the worn steel, a faint shriek could be heard. That couldn’t be good but it was something that she had been expecting. Knowing something was about to happen, she grabbed a hold of the bar that rested conveniently on top of the seat in front of her to brace herself. Looking back up, she managed to see a faint outline of something being in the middle of the street but not being able to make out what exactly the creature was, not that she had time to. The bus skidded across the open highway as the side at which Taylor was sitting on was threatening to hit the ground as the other side lifted up. Her body moved in the opposition direction as her side was, trying to not be forced up against the window. The bus tipping over was not an option – not that one person could stop it. Fortunately enough, the passenger-filled vehicle landed back down on four wheels and she was back in business.

By the time the two loud crashes hit the ceiling; Taylor was standing and looking around the bus. No one seemed injured, only frightened. The claws coming through the roof wouldn’t help the situation any as she watched a section being ripped from its hinges. Amongst the chaos she saw the bus driver open the door; of all the plans he had that wouldn’t be the smartest. “Don’t go outside!” Which could barely be heard over the noise – the driver sealed his own fate, grimacing slightly. Without second-guessing what happened outside, as she looked up to the new moon roof in the sky, it was then she knew what she was dealing with. The Shadowkind showed its ugly face, which gave her a little bit of an edge. She hadn’t seen them in a couple of years, but she could never forget a face like that: the weird horn/antler/antenna looking things sprouting from their heads and hands used directly for sucking the mana out of a magical user. From nights of research, studying, and experience she knew what these things were capable of. Wait.. that didn’t make sense at all! She had been there when the last of the arcanists fell, and as far as she knew there weren’t any left, especially in Los Angeles. Obviously, she was wrong or the Kelfazu got some wrong information somewhere down the line. It wasn’t long before they made their way into the bus and all hell broke loose.

Passengers scrambled to get out of their chairs as screams filled the narrow enclosure. One didn’t waste its time in going after its first victim. It was the guy who had come to join the lady and planned on having a nice conversation. Well, she gussed that thatwas out of the question. Fortunately enough, the two had been sitting near her and most of the passengers were out of her striking distance. Hand went behind her back to unsheathe the machete that was hidden and secured to her back. With using the momentum from behind her head and brought down the force onto the Kelfazu’s outstretched arm separating the creature’s limb from the rest of the body. An unearthly scream was let out as the Kelfazu stumbled back slightly. Looking to the young passengers, she didn’t waste any time.

“Move!” She didn’t know exactly where they could move, but the point was to get them out of the way of the angered Shadowkind.

"I'm going to come back for this." She handed her blade to the man that almost became monster food. Obviously, they were after him for a reason, or that's what she concluded. Plus, what she said was on the assumption that a) he and his friend could survive this and b) Taylor could use something else to fight off the creatures. It was out of her nature trusting a civilian with one of her weapons but for some rare reason that she wouldn't be able to be there - he wasn't completely helpless. However, she knew the Kalfazu was after more than one person. Looking up, she saw the saw the blonde in time to see her fight back. In such a small space, so much was going on. Did the third creature decide to catch the stragglers outside? It irked her not knowing that the third was in the bus with them. However, it wasn’t time to dwell on what wasn’t happening, there was enough going inside the bus.

She didn't like how she had to split her attention from the middle of the bus to the back of the bus where the blonde did her best to keep the creature that was attacking her and another passenger away. She recognized the other woman as the one listening to music. Granted it wasn't a long distance, but it was enough to where she couldn't fight them both at the same time. Making the decision to leave the armed man and his friend, she moved toward the back of the bus where the other fully-operational Shadowkind was. Her bow was her next option, but she had to get her hands on it first. The bag she had carried on wasn't under her seat anymore which meant it slid across the floor when the bus twisted and turned. Wonderful! Quick strides were taken as the blonde kicked the Kelfazu back a little bit. There was enough force behind that kick to knock it back enough for Taylor to grab ahold of the creatures arms, and using her strength and momentum to maneuver the ugly beast around to switch their places, ducking as it swung its dangerous hands. Now, Taylor was standing in between the passengers and it. Leg came up to kick the creature in its abdomen followed by a swift fist to its face. As a result the two were now in the same general area and it was something she could work with. No more leaving people unattended. Not an option.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Ryan Perry Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:04 pm

The Rain continued to come down, the bus continued its march towards Hollywood, and Ryan continued to contemplate how to get back home. The bus continued unabated by the college student’s concerns about getting back to his apartment. The bus suddenly takes a sharp turn and Ryan isn’t ready for it. He is too deep in thought to have a good hold of the handrail and he’s tossed across the aisle and into a group of other passengers.

As the bus comes to a stop Ryan struggles back to his feet. The bruises on his body scream shooting pain throughout his back. Ryan makes it to his feet to see the creatures tear into the bus. The sound for the bus being scraped open made Ryan cringe, and then there is their appearance. Ryan looks them up and down and adrenaline starts to kick in. The pain subsides as time seems to slow a bit as his fight reflex kicks into overdrive. He grabs a hold of a vertical handrail near the tear in the bus. Throwing his foot to the side of the bus he puts as much torque onto the bar as he can. The bar holds at first, and then begins to break away from its supports.

As Ryan frees the bar from its sheath he sees one of the passengers getting attacked, and another one carrying a blade. The girl passes off the blade and passes Ryan, he is fairly shocked at how quickly and confidently she moves. Ryan can’t help but be a little attracted to a girl that faces down death itself with such reckless abandon. She moves towards the back and switches places with the creature, and Ryan puts the pole out in front of him.

Ryan takes off towards the beast like a knight in the joust, and strikes out at the beast driving the pole into it’s hip. The creature isn’t too happy at the contact, but it doesn’t bring it down. All it does is turn and backhand Ryan across the aisle and into the windows. With a crunch the glass gives way and tears into his blazer and then into his flesh. The glass imbeds itself and gashes his back and the impact causes Ryan to drop the makeshift lance. He crumples into the seats, and is shaking the cobwebs from his head and vision.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Brian Botner Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:05 pm

This was certainly making his day better; playing the gentleman with a breathtaking young lady tended to do that.

“My day’s been okay I suppose. Nothing bad has happened so I suppose that’s a good thing isn’t it?”

Brian's laugh was cut off by the bus quickly swerving - it sent him sliding into Ally, the boxes in his arms threatening to tumble as the bus struggled to right itself. It settled back onto the slippery road, and as Brian opened his mouth to apologize for squishing the petite Alisa, there was a crash on the roof of the bus that was much louder than the pelting rain. Brian sharply looked upwards, and his eyes widened in fright as he saw the roof cave in as whoever - whatever - atop it moved.

"I don't believe in jinxes," he said quietly, trying to keep his voice steady as he looked back at Ally. "But maybe that wasn't the best time to say nothing bad has happened yet today."

“Everyone stay calm!" yelled the bus driver from the front of the bus as he stopped it in the middle of the road. "Any injuries?”

As if on cue, sharp, copper nails tore into the roof above Brian and Ally, and looking down were two of the most fearsome creatures Brian would never have imagined meeting. Cold rain splashed down on the passengers through the opening. Needless to say, chaos reigned as everyone attempted to leave the bus. One of the creatures was staring right at Ally and him - well, he assumed the creature was; although it had no eyes the red gashes in its bark-like flesh were pointed at the two - like they were what was for dinner.

Shit.

The creature lifted its long, thin arm, and without a thought Brian shoved the boxes off of his lap and threw an arm around Ally to pull her down with him as the creature's arm swiped down at them as if to carry them away. He felt his hair ruffle with the breeze the quick movement of the beast generated; with a quick glance behind him, he saw deep slashes in the seat that would have done him in. An unearthly shriek brought his attention back to the creature...that was now missing an arm? A fierce looking woman stood in the aisle with a knife in her hand that Brian had only read about. If he was correct in his assumption, this woman had been carrying around a machete on public transportation. But he didn't have time to marvel at that - she abruptly held out the knife to him.

"I'm going to come back for this."

His thin, pallid face grew paler and wide eyes grew even wider as he looked at the blade now in his hand. It was heavier than he had thought and as long and wide as his calf, and his arm drooped with the added weight as the woman left as quickly as she had come; she was on a mission as she bounded towards the back of the bus, towards another of the creatures, leaving him with the machete and a furious creature to cut at with it. A creature that was no longer content to bide its time on the top of the bus; as he looked upwards, getting a face full of rainwater that he blinked furiously out of his sky blue eyes, Brian saw the creature lean forwards, preparing to lunge towards them again.

Fantastic.

"Ally, you've got to get out of here," Brian said as calmly as he could, automatically adopting the tone he intuitively used when telling patients a diagnosis. The creature, now seeing that he held the weapon that took its arm - albeit shakily - seemed slightly wary, but he didn't think it would stay put for long, although the loss of limb was cramping its grab-and-go style. Keeping eye contact with it, Brian continued to speak levelly to the girl sitting behind him. "Open the emergency exit window, get out, and get help," he stressed, nodding to the marked window a few seats down. He spared a tense moment to fleetingly look at her beyond-frightened face, and impulsively leaned forward to kiss her pale forehead.

"You're going to be fine," Brian said, smiling briefly in an attempt to keep her from breaking down, but an ungodly shriek let him know that his time was up.

"Go!" he yelled as he sprung to his feet and lashed out at the creature. Another high scream let him know that he had hit his mark, but with the rain and the chaos and the everything, he couldn't tell how successful his jab at it had been. No mangled, branch-like body parts fell, though, so he knew he would have to try again. To get more even with it, Brian stood on the seat, his footing unsteady on the now-slippery surface as his nerves shook him.

What had he done to make some crazy creature that belonged safely inside the pages of a fantasy novel to hunt him down? How was it that this thing even existed? A harpy he could believe - kind of - but a, a, a - what was this thing?

But, like many things, he hadn't time to ponder that at the moment.

He swung the curved blade at the creature again, focusing this time on its other arm.

Now, you need to understand that Brian had never been one for physical violence. Gore in movies gave him the heebie-jeebies, and he'd never physically fought back to the kids in school who had teased and tormented him in his youth for being the awkward, lanky, pimply kid he had been. Even when he met the harpy, Brian had been helpless. His fight-or-flight response was heavily flight oriented. Therefore, this was an extraordinary occurrence, and he felt sick as he felt the blade connect with the creature's flesh. Oh sure, he'd cut into humans before - in a sterile environment, with a small scalpel, with bright lights shining down and without the intent of murder. But when thrust into a situation such as this, the calm almost-doctor realized that what had to be done, had to be done.

With all of the white noise around him, Brian could barely hear the thud of the creature's limb as it fell through the hole in the roof and down to the ground to join its counterpart. Feeling more drained than ever but knowing that he wasn't allowed to be done yet, Brian looked back up at the creature above him. It swayed sickeningly in the darkness before falling off of the roof, landing with a crunch on the asphalt. Letting out the breath he hadn't realized he was holding, Brian took a calculating look around the bus from his high vantage point. He was just in time to see a man thrown into a window by another creature; the window broke, and he knew shards of glass would be cutting into the man as he just stood there. Brian's mind raced - back and spinal injuries could lead to swift paralysis if professional aid was not given immediately, but even then...

Brian made his way towards the man as quickly and stealthily as he could, not wanting to attract the unwelcome attention of the other creature, and found him about to pass out.

"Stay awake, sir," Brian commanded, getting down to the man's level where he was hidden by the seats. "I need you to stay awake and tell me what you can feel. Are you numb anywhere?"

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Alisa Madison Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:08 pm

Her dark lashes lowering in shyness, Ally gave Brian a small quick smile before turning to look out the window only to find herself squished against the glass as the bus spun out of control. The momentum pushing Brian into her as the force of the bus’s metal sides painfully hit her slender arm. It wasn’t until the bus stopped was she able to turn her head around, raising a hand to rub her aching neck to ease the pain. Unfortunate, her pain only got worst as her head whipped up on the loud thumps on the bus roof.

Eyes widening in horror, her hands rose to cover her face, although a part of her also wanted to cover her eyes at the sight above them. Large, brown demonic looking creatures with muscular bodies snarled down at her. Scared out of her wits, Ally found that she couldn’t look up at them for long and was forced to look away. As she could see, everyone on the bus was panicking. Brian’s lips were moving but her heart was pounding so loudly that she couldn’t hear anything he said.

Even though everything happened so quickly, it was as though everything was in slow motion, or her senses were heighten as she took everything in. People screaming, the panic, the bus driver being slashed apart like a bag of Doritos, the scene was like one of those horror movies that she would never watch since it would give her nightmares for weeks.

If she was able to survive this night, she had a feeling she would never sleep for years.

Yet, even though she was aware of everything around her, even as her head was screaming at her to escape somehow, Ally found that she could barely move, so paralyzed with fear to run or even speak. Especially as the creature stood before her and Brian, his bright red eyes seeming to zone in on her fear before descending on them.

It was then that she realized her father was right. Good deeds do reap good deeds. Why, if she hadn’t moved her boxes away so Brian can sit, he wouldn’t have been by her side. He wouldn’t have been close enough or able to shove her beneath the seat and ultimately saved her life as the…the thing lashed out at them. Ripping the leather seat into shreds instead of them. But there wasn’t any time for gratitude as it would have been drowned out by the god awful shriek that came from the creature as is arms suddenly flew off. Ally was only able to see a flitting glimpse of the beautiful dark haired woman who saved their lives before she handed Brian a knife and continued on.

Hands shaking, Ally tried to pull herself out from beneath the seat when she caught sight of the gray limb covered in different shades of red ooze on the floor. She didn’t know if it were the creature’s blood (could they even bleed?!), or the people around her, but she could feel the rest of her control, what precious little that she had left, snap as her mouth opened to let out a horrified scream. Stumbling on what she hoped to God was water, her right hand covered her mouth as her stomach threatened to heave her small dinner.

"Ally, you've got to get out of here,"

Amidst the chaos, Brian’s softly spoken words seemed to reach out to her as she cut off mid-scream. As he instructed her get help, she felt herself nod. He was right. There was no use screaming and hiding. It certainly wouldn’t help her, or anyone survive. When he ordered her to go, she forced her legs to move despite the stinging from the scratches. His kiss barely registered in her mind, nor the fact that they were strangers and it was very inappropriate. After all, they were fighting to survive death. Screw social etiquettes. He had saved her life and in her book they were past the formalities.

Hell, if they all got out of here alive, she would gratefully give everyone a kiss.

Scrambling up the seat, she tried to get the window open but between the rain and her shaking fingers, the stupid thing wouldn’t budge. Not knowing if all the windows were the same and not wanting to waste time trying, she looked to the front of the bus where the door gaped open. Despite the fact that it was blood smeared and there was a corpse in the way, it was the only exit she could see. There was a sudden crash to her left but Ally didn’t even turn around to look.

She started to run down the aisle, dodging poles here and there when she suddenly slipped on something and hit the ground hard. Groaning out loud, Ally looked up just as a girl fiercely kicked one of the creatures. Even though she knew she shouldn’t, she couldn’t help grimacing at the painful screech that escaped its mouth. As it stumbled back in her direction, she quickly rolled out of the way but it still stepped on her foot. Hard.

Still, it didn’t seem to notice her as she held her breath, not wanting to attract its attention as she pulled her body out of its way, gritting her teeth against her throbbing foot. Pulling herself up, she accidentally bumped into the brave girl in her haste. “Sorry,” she automatically said, her head whipping from side to side as she tried to see if there was anymore.

5 9 3 | M E T R O | B U S | L I N E R
LOS ANGELES, HIGHWAY
Chaos ensued on the 593 Metro Bus, and no one could believe his or her eyes as many looked on in fear while others bolted for the open door. The creatures before them were from their worst nightmares, horror movies, and myth. Where had they come from? No one knew and quite frankly, it was obvious their only concern was escape. Many fought their way to the front while clawing and pushing other passengers out of the way. The Kelfazu looked on with blank stares as they looked onto their prey. That unique scent was in the air, which set apart a small handful residing on that very vehicle. It was their drug, the ambrosia that drew them. Mana was rare, especially since it’s main source had been wiped out by the Behemoth and others like it. The Horde had a special interest in wiping out all opposition and the Kelfazu were the perfect weapons for the job.

Escape was pointless. With one push, the bus driver was shoved onto his back and to the side—clearing a path ahead. Like ants, those that had managed to find their way out scattered about the abandoned highway despite the warning of the Hunter. Descending upon its victims, the Kelfazu grabbed the neck of a man and without a thought hurled him against the concrete wall separating the road from the buildings surrounding it. Inside the bus, a howl would be heard over the roar as the machete sliced through thick layers of skin and bone just as it was about to grab the boy. With its remaining arm, the Kelfazu turned to chase after the woman but was brought to a stop when the same machete hacked away at his other arm. Infuriated, the large creature rammed its body into Brian’s to knock him off his feet. The Kelfazu would just stand there, drawing what power it could. In mere seconds, two new arms sprouted fought and replaced what had been lost. “That was a mistake boy.” The stained fingernail would sway above him as the machete had fallen from his grasp and slid across the isle. While Brian was lying on his back, Alisa had attempted to go for help. No help would come and the creature outside waited for the brunette to descend the steps. With the back of its hand, she would be struck down to the floor.

The last accomplice in the back of the bus would have its hands full—quite literally. The pepper spray would be useless against him and while the child might be safe, she would not be. In one swift motion, knobby fingers would encircle Lyra’s tiny neck and lift her a foot of the ground. Poised, the sharp nail would press against her arm as the sleeve was torn away. Before it could continue, the metal handrail collided its hip. Using Lyra as a bat, her body would be swung into Ryan’s body, as he would fly into the opposite window. All seemed hopeless for the new arcanists. The girl would be jostled from the Kelfazu’s grasp, thrown off guard when both arms were grabbed and drawn behind it’s back. Lyra would practically fall on top of Monique—snapping her out of her daze. A stiff kick to the abdomen would cause it flinch but not keel over. With its elbow, all his weight was lunged forward and the elbow would connect with the side of Taylor’s ribs. She had proved to be too much of a nuisance. “You would be wise to surrender now, its useless to fight back.”

Post  Lyra Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:10 pm

Lyra fought to stay conscious as she was used as a bat against one of the others. It didn't help that she hit her head on the damn pole. Her entire body was screaming at her, but what broke through that feeling was the sound of the kid in the back screaming even more. Jesus, she needed to hide that kid. Why couldn't he be invisible. She just... she just needed to get him hid. Away from the eyesight of these things, whatever they were. Lord, please... I never ask for anything... She didn't get to see the interesting consequence of her request, of her focus on the fact that the little boy she'd put in the back needed to be hidden. She was too busy being thrown into the black girl she'd seen with the earphones.

Landing with a hard THUMP, Lyra cried out in both surprise and pain. This was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. Why were these things fucking around with them? Why did they center them out? What was so damn special about this bus and the people on it? Or was it some random coincidence? That could be it... maybe. But how often did that happen in her life? At this point she was almost wishing Adam was the one to show up. At least the pepper spray would have worked on that asshole. But no, she was stuck with these... these... things. Nothing seemed to work. Not a kick, not a machete to the arms, hell even the chick with the weapons couldn't seem to bring them down. They were like... weird ridiculous talking somethings. Zombies. That's it. They were deformed zombies. That was the easiest thing she could come with. And the way to get rid of zombies was to take their head off. But in order to take this thing's head off she had to get to that blade. Or find another one. She didn't even know if there was another one though. She knew there was one on the other side of the bus. She just had to get up and get to it without getting the attention from the one that was beating on the brunette. That was... if she could.

The second she tried to move, pain streaked up her body. She was going to be bruised all to hell and if nothing was broken, she'd be lucky. But she knew she more than likely had a concussion and she could feel the bruises that littered her body by now. Some were from the bus crash, some were old... but most were from these things crazy talking zombie things. Still, she forced herself to move, turning her head to check on the girl she'd fallen on. She began to move, slowly, trying to stay off their radar. Every move forward she made, hand and knee to the ground, made her wince in pain. She hadn't been thrown around this much in years. But she had a goal in mind and when Lyra Sullivan had a goal in mind, she tried her damndest to reach it through anything. Goal of the moment: get that damn machete and take that thing's head off.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Taylor Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:08 pm

Amongst the chaos and confusion, Taylor kept a relatively clear mind. For everything that was going on in the bus, she had to keep everything in order and know what had to be done for everyone to get off the bus relatively unharmed (bus driver not included). She chose to come on this bus and she was happy that her gut instinct was right. She’d rather be on the bus and be able to stop something than hear a bus full of people died because she didn’t follow through. That wasn’t the case this evening! Score one for the huntress. Seeing the man try to play hero with a make-shift weapon was appreciated, but knew that it would only get people into more trouble. Too many times had she seen people try and be the ”good samaritan” and it ended up getting them killed. This was no difference; she watched as the man was thrown into the window and fell to the floor. Wonderful. Being two places at once was becoming more of an impossibility as the seconds passed by. The only thing she had accomplished at that point was make two monsters pissed off. But hey, bring on the new obstacles. The monster in the back of the bus was angry and it resulted in an overly large elbow connecting with her ribs. It was enough to knock her back a few feet and knock the wind out of her. Broken ribs? Maybe, but it was nothing she hadn’t dealt with before. However, taking the hit turned out to be more to her advantage because it put her within reaching distance of her machete. Maybe she didn’t have the worst luck in the world after all? That was a tad far-fetched and as quickly as the thought entered her mind it left. The moment she picked it up the blood covered blade, she was bumped into by the brunette she saw earlier and on top of that she was apologized to. Really? Taylor gave her a weird look and in the in the midst of everything going on you apologize for bumping into someone?

Before she could even react, the Kalfazu caught her attention and with the blade in the opposite hand, it was hidden from the Shadowkind’s sight. “I was never one to take orders.” With that said, she used the momentum of her body turning toward the Horde combined with her swinging it up from the ground to connect her blade with the undefended neck of the beast in front of her. Taylor had started to get a head count (ha! pun intended) with her decapitations. It was the one way to ensure said monster could die without coming back. It was an obtained skill that she was starting to master. The effort that it took for her to get its head off did make her acknowledge that her ribs were a bit more hurt than she had realized and the machete fell from her hands from her wincing in pain. As the blade fell, so did the head of the Kalfazu and ended up landed on the blonde that was crawling on the ground. If that’s the worst thing that happened to her then she would be fine. “Are you hurt?” Taylor couldn’t dwell on the fact that she had magical blood running through her veins because there was one more monster inside the bus and one on the outside. Taking time to deal with one monster could ultimately result in someone else becoming a casualty of this fight. Not really waiting for an answer, she ignored the pain that flowed through her ribs; she turned her attention back to the one that was standing over the man she had given the machete to earlier. Because there were still innocent people in the seats cowering in fear, her choices were limited on what she could actually do. She hated when she had other people to worry about when she was trying to do her job. They were all un-needed distractions in the overall scheme of things.

As the Kalfazu made his move toward the two men on the floor on the bus, she took out a blade that was in her jacket holster and threw the dagger at the chest of the lone monster inside. It wasn't meant for a kill, it was more to get the attention off of the guys and more on her. Hey, what's better than a dagger to the chest to say pick on someone your own size -- even if she wasn't. It hopefully got the point across.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Brian Botner Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:09 pm

Before the injured man could speak, the furious creature descended upon them. It knocked into Brian, sending him flying down the aisle to land on his back on the slippery ground. The wind knocked out of him, Brian gasped for breath and watched in horror as two arms swiftly sprouted to replace each that he and the woman had chopped off. The horror he felt was mixed with awe - How had the creatures evolved to do that? Astounding! What I wouldn't give for a chance to... - but that awe quickly dissipated and he was left with only horror as the creature spoke to him.

“That was a mistake boy,” it said, leering as it leisurely closed the distance between them. Brian was dumbstruck, barely aware of anything but the creature, but as it neared him he was jolted back to this new reality. There was a monster closing in on him, he was useless without a weapon, and he was not too much help even with one. The machete he had been holding had been sent flying when the creature got him, and Brian shakily scrambled to his knees, feeling around for the blade in the semi-darkness. The light pollution of the city was no help and neither were the stars or the unreliable lighting of the bus, the flickering of the lights lining the aisle was more distracting than helpful, and within moments the creature was before him, and he was weaponless.

There was a soft woosh and a sickening squelch as a blade flew through the air just above Brian's head to land in the chest of the creature, the handle of the dagger the only part sticking out. Dark blood oozed from the wound, but it didn't seem too hurt, just annoyed. Brian whipped his head around to see where the dagger - the dagger that had saved his skin - had come from, and wasn't surprised to see the woman who had lent him the machete standing in the aisle. She looked more worse for wear than when he had last seen her, but damn, the awe he had felt about the creature spontaneously growing new limbs? Doubled, tripled, quadrupled, in the presence of this woman; he'd never seen anyone like her. By the looks of things, she'd taken out one of the monsters on her own already, and was ready to do the same to his personal demon, and it was his pleasure to get out of the way.

Brian hurriedly slid out of the aisle, keeping his eyes on the lethal pair. Not paying attention to where he was going, he was surprised when he bumped into someone in the confined floor space. Turning his head, he offhandedly said, "Sorry, Ally," and returned to watching.

Hang on.

"Ally?" he said, doing a quick doubletake. "What're you - what're you doing down here? I thought you were getting out! Are you all right?"

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Alisa Madison Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:10 pm

Despite the crashes and cries around her, Ally didn’t look up in case she would get distracted from getting help. And God knows she would be if she saw any more blood. Even though she should be helping the frightened and the hurt surrounding her, she knew that she wouldn’t be much help anyway. She wasn’t a doctor or a fighter. Why, she bruised as easily as a peach and the slightest sight of blood made her sick. The most she knew about injuries was the kind that could be cured with a Band-Aid. And judging by the moaning and cries around her, Band-Aids weren’t going to help anyone here.

No, she wouldn’t have been much help. How could she be when she’s always been the helpless rather than the helper? Her capable brother and sisters certainly never needed her help. And they were always there to help poor little Ally out of trouble. They were there to pick her up and tend to her injuries before she even knew she fell.
Even when she didn’t want their help.

In fact, the only time she didn’t have their help was during her attack the other week. She can still remember the terror she felt. The pain of her injuries. She thought she was going to die that night. But she didn’t…

Her head snapped up at the realization. But she didn’t because she took things into her own hands. She fought the creature off, if you can call the few swipes of the Swiss army knife actual fighting. But it was true. She may not have the power or grace of the brunette fighter that saved her and Brian earlier. Or Brian’s bravery and willingness to help others. Or even the courage of the blond girl in the front that fought one of the other creatures to help a little boy. In fact, she didn’t know what she had or could do.

But she knew she didn’t want to be the helpless one any longer. Gritting her teeth to push herself up from the ground, she could help the loud squeak that escaped when she looked up and saw the same blond girl go flying through the air. She took a deep breath. Movies were wrong. Transformations into brave warriors didn’t happen within a profound moment of realization. Even though she knew she just had her moment, it didn’t help her get up and fight when her body was paralyzed with fear.

Eventually she was able to move, but as soon as she got to her knees, she was promptly knocked back down again. Swearing under her breath, she braced herself for another beating, sure that it was one of the creatures that knocked her down.

“Ally? What're you - what're you doing down here? I thought you were getting out! Are you all right?"

Relief rushed over her as Brian’s voice cut through the air. Using the seat to push herself up, Ally grabbed his arm to steady herself. “I guess I didn’t make it.” She replied stating the obvious. “I’m…okay considering…” She drifted off as her gaze swept across the bus at all the injured bodies (hopefully not corpses) that filled the ground and seats. Stopping on one of the creatures, she watched as he descended on the fierce woman, oblivious to the knife sticking out of his chest. Not knowing what she was doing, Ally’s hand curved around a round, long vase. It was an Ajijic designed macetas, or outdoor pot. One of Sara’s friends bought one for her as a gift on his business trip to Cozumel along with the supplies. Sara planned to showcase it in the shop. It was beautiful, rare, and in Ally’s opinion ridiculously expensive. Only certain parts of Mexico offered these. Before she left, Sara had instructed her to be careful with the packages as though it were a matter of life and death.

But seeing how this was clearly a matter of life and death, Ally was sure that Sara wouldn’t mind.

She wound up and threw it at the monster as hard as she could.

Even though she was small and slight, she had played on her high school softball team for a year and learned how to pitch. Those practices were clearly well spent as the heavy pot connected with the monster’s head.
Filled with either elation or fear, her heart was pounding so fast she couldn’t even tell anymore, Ally held her breath. She didn’t know where the hell the burst of bravery came from but she hoped to God it wouldn’t desert her now.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Ryan Perry Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:11 pm

Ryan slowly picked himself up out of the window. He felt shards of glass peel away from the window and stay embedded in his skin. It was an eerie feeling, almost as if the window was a second flesh that was tore away as he stood up. He was battered and bruised, but he refused to be beaten. These things were going to slaughter everyone in the bus, and very few seemed in the right senses to do something about it. The lady he had hoped to help obviously didn't need it as she took the head clean off the monster, "The women out here sure pack some heat", was all he thought to himself.

Ryan found himself shocked as she threw a dagger at the monster, didn't she see how it shrugged off his lance attack, it didn't need another weapon. Then a heroically stupid idea popped into his head, He picked the pole/lance back up and charged the monster. When he was still a few feet away he tossed the metal pipe up as a distraction and started to brace himself for a slide, when e was close enough he reached for the dagger and grabbed a hold of it, he didn't have a good grip, and tried to slide between the creatures legs.

The monster reaching up for the lance doesn't react in time to Ryan's slide and misses by inches with a strike that would surely have took his head off. Ryan slides on his back using the glass and his own blood to lessen the friction and pulls the dagger down the thing's chest, but it hits something and slides free of the creature as Ryan slides into the front of the bus with a thud. He leaves a streak of glass and blood behind him, and gains a better grip on the dagger as he looks upside down at the creature. The pain was intense, but he hoped it could buy the rest of the passengers some reprieve from the violence.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Taylor Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:11 pm

She watched as the scene played out before her eyes. Really? It only took a few seconds between her dagger plunging into the monster’s heart to see that everyone on the bus had banded together to get themselves killed. It was nice to see so much bravery in one place, but maybe now wasn’t such the best time for such heroics. She didn’t stop to think that maybe they saw her as this crazy ass person who carried weapons around where ever she went. It was an everyday thing to her and in her mind it was nothing out of the normal – except the people who were fighting back. That was abnormal. The brunette she had bumped into earlier was using a vase as a weapon and it couldn’t help but find it a tad entertaining. It was weird to see so many people pitch in and try to do their part. Of course, as entertaining as it was, it was also annoying. What happened to the good ol’ fashioned run and hide aspect and not dive right into unknown monster land? Apparently it had disappeared; her theory being solidified to see the man who was injured earlier getting up to do his own part. After all she was doing it was like they wanted a death wish or something!

At first everything was going to plan and the monster had diverted his attention from Brian and Alisa to Taylor and then back to Ryan. If nothing else, this big bad lackey was getting more confused (and angry) by the moment. As the Kelfazu turned to Ryan who was on the floor, Taylor took her opportunity. Getting a little bit of a running start, she came up behind the Kelfazu and placed a strategic foot down behind its kneecap. A screech was heard and the monster lost his balance on one foot. Without thinking twice, both hands came around to put on its chin and behind its grotesque head, snapping it in a fatal manner. Pain shot through her head as she let out an audible sign that she was injured. Damn, that hurt more than she thought it would. After the monster dropped down to the ground, the injured man who now had her dagger in his hand laid before her. Grabbing her abdomen slightly she walked over to him bending down and grabbing at the scruff of his shirt, “You do that again, I swear I’ll kill you myself.” Well, she knew she wouldn’t go ahead and murder him, but he didn’t know that nor would he ever probably find out. Letting go of his bloodied shirt, she stood back up slowly and looked at all the frightened passengers in the bus, the few that were left. Unfortunately, she knew that they weren’t out of danger yet and there was another Kelfazu outside of the bus waiting to make its move. Without a word being said, she picked up her machete that was dropped on the ground and the gym bag she had brought on the bus. Finding an empty seat she put her bag down and the machete right next to it. She probably should have said something to the bus to be all calming and relaxing, but that wasn’t her job. However, she didn’t need people running outside in hysterics and stood back up and took a deep breath. “Under no circumstances is anyone to go outside.” Who knew, maybe someone would go and run for help but that was not her intention. Hazel eyes landed on the few people she had saved throughout the night and to the frightened families hiding in their seats. As long as there was a Kelfazu outside, the passengers were stuck inside… with two dead monsters on the floor. It was time to regroup and re-attack. This was time to make use of her resources.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Lyra Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:12 pm

To say that Lyra had been surprised when the brunette woman addressed her - not to mention after a head had come slamming down onto her - Lyra only nodded. "Couldn't be better," she muttered, pushing up in order to try to gain some footing. It was no good to be on the ground when these things were walking around above you. And even if it hurt. Lyra knew she had to push past the pain. It wasn't anything she hadn't done before. She'd known plenty of pain in her lifetime and she knew how to compartmentalize it in order to use it. And she could damn well use it. She'd been fighting regular people all her life... these guys had to be thought of as that, just... maybe hopped up on PCP or something. Of course, she knew they were some kind of monsters, but that didn't stop her from trying to think of them as something else. If she didn't have to think of them as monsters, then she could hold her own, even with her ribs screaming at her. Yeah... those were definitely bruised. Further quick inspection told her she had a broken wrist - oh wasn't that going to be fun to doctor up on her own, because no one on this bus was touching her after this. It just wasn't happening.

Still, with the kid on board she couldn't exactly leave. Even with his mom on the bus, he was a weakness to her and that was unacceptable. Sure, Lyra would love it if she could just high tail it off this bus that had found its way onto route 666, but she couldn't. Because of that damn little brat in the back. And speaking of, Lyra freaked momentarily when she couldn't see him, but as if she willed it on her own, a sort of veil seemed to fall and reveal the kid huddling where she'd put him. Hmm. Good kid. Alright kid, awesome. Just... keep your tiny ass in that spot and don't fucking move. Her thoughts ran through her head a mile a minute as she cradled her arm to her. She seemed to watch everything in slow motion.

The guy who came sliding in to grab the brunette's dagger.

The brunette who seemed to be the woman who knew what she was doing as she snapped the creature's neck in front of them.

The kid and the other brunette girl who seemed to know each other earlier as the girl threw a vase at the thing's head. Good shot.

Lyra knew she needed to get moving and find something to help with. Even as the second creature on the bus was dispatched - in a pretty damn bloody way too - she knew there was a third up on top. She hadn't lost track of that one in all the commotion, if only because she was so used to keeping track of her surroundings so much. And she wasn't letting that one inside. She was a survivor and it was time to put those skills into action full force. So when the brunette set the machete down by a bag, Lyra waited for her to finish speaking before she spoke herself.

"You can't leave us unarmed if you're going anywhere."

Her voice was a little shaky, she wasn't going to try to hide it, but she wasn't backing down either.

"Maybe not all of us, but some of us can defend the others if you end up getting your own head sliced off up there. So give me something,"

She may be small looking, but the blonde had experience in places others didn't because of the way she lived, and it showed in the way she held herself and the dark knowledge in her eyes. She may not know what these things were, but she'd be willing to play the defender this once. As long as the kid got off this damn cage on wheels in one piece. That was her end goal. If the other people survived in the process, well, good. Great. Consider it a bonus. Lyra didn't much care. They could take care of themselves if the situation arose... after all, they'd already proven that, hadn't they?

Lyra Sullivan may have had a deathwish, but she wasn't ignorant about it. She knew that these things were deadly. Their display had proved as much already. And her injuries certainly weren't child's play or imagined. Fuck these things. They'd hurt her. She had a right to see that they were all eradicated.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Plotline Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:13 pm

5 9 3 | M E T R O | B U S | L I N E R
LOS ANGELES, HIGHWAY
With two creatures already down and out, silence rested eerily throughout the night. Faint sounds of crickets chirping could be made out if one could get past the blood rushing in their ears, though with the frightened atmosphere of the passengers, that was unlikely. The third Kelfazu waited patiently outside, though safely hidden from the view of any spectators peering from the bus windows. The road and area around them was still – the air cold and calm, yet with a hint of danger lurking in the midst. Listening intently as the blonde girl made her request for a weapon to protect herself, the creature set its marking-eyes on the experienced Huntress who had killed its kin.

The abruptness of its descent on the top of the bus caused a loud quaking noise to ring throughout the battered vehicle. As soon as its footfalls had thundered onto the metal top, its strong hand punched right through the thick layer to reach towards its prey. A strong hand clutched the brunette danger by the nape of her neck and shoulder, roughly pulling her up and through the roof to bring her face to face. The low growl in its throat only served as a warning to the woman, though red markings were lightly illuminated in the night air. Its grip tightened, and for a moment it seemed as if the creature were sniffing Taylor – smelling the air around her. She was not an Arcanist herself, as she lacked the sweet, unique scents of the different domain blood.

Still, if it were going to get to taste the blood it so anxiously craved, the woman would have to be eradicated. Its grasp on the woman tightened before throwing the brunette girl swiftly to the cold, rough pavement. No matter what fight she put up to save those she desperately sought to protect, it would fight its hardest to win its craving. A loud cry rang throughout the night to accompany the screams of the bus passengers, and the creature jumped and off the bus, its weight shift tilting the bus enough to flip it onto its side. A clawed hand pummeled towards its prey, connecting with the woman while she was down. Victory would taste sweet.

When Fates Collide (Semi-Open) Empty Re: When Fates Collide (Semi-Open)

Post  Taylor Sullivan Fri Mar 26, 2010 8:14 pm

Taylor looked through her bag, seeing that her bow was still intact and no arrows were broken. Thank the lord. If her bow was broken, everyone in the surrounding area would have a problem on their hands. That wasn’t the case so everyone was safe, theoretically speaking. The throbbing in her abdomen was a horrible reminder that she was damaged goods and she wasn’t at 100%. Somehow, every time she was injured it annoyed her more than the predicament she had gotten herself into. She counted what she still had within reaching distance and it was looking good. One more dagger in her holster, the machete next to her bag, her bow, and the other dagger which she forgot to take back from the wannabe hero bleeding on the ground. Before she could go back for her missing weapon, she was confronted by the blonde who she had seen crawling on the ground. Turning to face the woman who questioned her, she shook her head. “I didn’t say I was going anywhere, did I?” She answered in an annoyed voice. It wasn’t anything toward the blonde, but she was trying to think and unfortunately, she knew what the Kelfazu was capable of. “Thanks for the confidence boost, but I’m not worried about my head right now.” True story, it was the monster’s head that was Taylor’s target. She had one thing in mind and that was getting outside, finishing her job, and getting everyone out. Simple enough plan, but it was how she was going to execute it that was a little washy on the details.

She didn’t have to wait long as her way out became apparent – and not in her ideal way. Hearing the warning only a mere seconds before it grabbed her didn’t give her the chance to grab her weapon. Stupid blonde! Feeling pain rush through her upper shoulder and neck, she grabbed onto the creatures hand as she was lifted up and out of the bus. Great, now more people would be in hysterics and would touch her stuff! Okay, that wasn’t exactly on her mind at the moment, but it would have been if she wasn’t so preoccupied with the events that transpired. Rain came down, soaking her to the bone as she looked at her opponent straight in the… face? Tree like carvings? Whatever. She had learned that patience was truly a virtue, figuring out that waiting for her opponent to make its move first was, in certain circumstances, the better option. It would mean nothing with her flailing around and freaking out since it would make the brainless shadow kind flip out as well. Claws dug into her neck with more intensity as she hung there, gritting her teeth as she handled the pain, watching as the big oaf was doing his investigation. She braced herself as she felt the Kelfazu move and automatically figured out what was going on. Flying through the air, she landed with a sickening thud on the drenched pavement. Luckily, she didn’t hit her head, but it felt as though an elephant sat on her chest – the air refused to fill her lungs as the rain surrounded her. Ringing filled her ears as she laid on the ground, checking for broken bones. Back moved in the right ways, she could feel her arms and legs as she started to regain her strength on the pavement. Watching the monster flip the bus was all fuzzy as she heard the screams in the distance. However, she was confident that the lackey would come back for her and not in the bus (from past experience). Everything was going to plan, kind of, except for the whole being thrown off the bus – that sucked so badly. Coughing loudly, her chest constricted and her abdomen yelled in protest as she moved a little bit more in response hearing the Kelfazu run towards her.

Taking her chance as the monster came to hit her while she was down; she rolled out of the way as the large fist connected with the pavement. Hand went into her jacket and pulled out the one dagger that was left and in one quick movement thrust it into the monster’s throat with the strength she had. She watched as her opponent’s body went limp and used the handle to push the dead weight to the side. She laid there, on the ground, and in the rain trying to catch her breath. Taylor had done what need to be done and that was that. Slowly, she pushed herself off the ground, retrieved her dagger, and made her way to the battered bus. Man, the big chunk of metal looked as bad as she felt. How fitting. Walking to the flipped over bus, she went to the back and kicked out the emergency door - mostly because it was knocked off its hinges due to the hell it had been through. Poor passengers inside, she knew that there had been some injuries, but she hoped they were minor. Kneeling down on the wet pavement, she only imagined what she looked like to passengers all beat up and bruised. Because of the rain, she didn't know if she was bleeding from the spot the Kelfazu had picked her up and that wasn't the the biggest priority. Looking inside, she saw a lot of scared faces but no one who looked too hurt; at least.. no one she could see. "Let's get out of here.." She was ready for this night to be over. Now she could worry about her belongings and felt a twinge of annoyance as she thought of her machete AND bow still in there. Let's hope that wasn't broken!
